In the end, the lake melts into abundance. The air thins like clarity sharp against the lung. Expand like a vista. Become too vast for another’s vision. Go your way and remain unperturbed. All that melts will return someday.
Over time, the milky backs of birch straighten into someone else’s handhold. The soft rustle of real strength and stillness of growth. An afternoon just beyond the golden zero. Waking.
And so it is in the beginning, some patience ripping across the surface of luck. The clarity of future mountains to climb, waiting in the midst of stillness. Beauty cold enough to arrest an inhale.

the first and the last time during my years here when pretentious business people invited me and pretended they cared about my opinion. on that day, i also took the only photo of me and the iconic building. - 5년동안 여기서 대학생활을 하면서 여러 좋은 사람들을 만나고 영원히 소중한 친구들도 만들고 많은 것들을 배우고 경험했다. - 어쩌다보니 하와이와 상해도 가게 되었고. 어쩌다보니 1학년 1학기 어떤 수업에서 에세이 테마가 너무 싫어 교수님한테 가서 다른 거 해도 되냐고 나도 몰랐던 당당함과 뻔뻔함 그리고 열정의 부탁을한 순간부터 나는 마지막까지 대학 공부를 내가 하고 싶은대로 하고 있었다. (나의 욕심에 어떤 인류학 컨퍼런스에서 한국힙합과 세계화에 대한 페이퍼를 발표하고 대학교를 끝냈다.) - 그리고 나는 어쩌다보니 어른이 되어 가고 있었다. 마지막 학년에 나는 학생에서 사회인으로 커가는 과정을 거치고 있어서 그랬던건지 대학생활이 끝이 났다는게 크게 와 닿지가 않다. - here’s to my five years. (except i still have a project to finish with the alumni department & they just won’t let me go!!)
작년의 오늘. - 내가 여기서 누리고 헤어나가고 있는 삶을 다른 도시에서도 편히 할 수 있다면 얼마나 좋을까. 여기서 할 수 있으면 거기서도 할 수 있을까. 언젠간 하고 있겠지. if i could do what i’m doing here in a different city. - i still need to organize my photos from last summer.

- alone and anonymous in a big city. a city so familiar yet so new. a city that my mom introduced me when i was 13, and i fell in love with it so much that she took me again a month later. i remember walking down the streets of chelsea, holding my brother’s small hand. the year my mom wanted to do so much for a year she was here. - a city of my high school dreams. - 익숙하면서도 새로운 환경에 바쁜 삶을 살고 있는 사람들 사이에 아무도 아닌 익명으로 혼자 대도시를 마음대로 돌아다닐때 느껴지는 흥분을 어떤 말로도 표현할 수가 없다. - 정말로 필요했던 여행. 나를 위한 여행. 탈출이라고 말할 수도 있다. 나의 끝입없이 바쁜 생활의 탈출. 아빠가 말했다, 피하지 말고 두통이랑 친구되라고.

the blinding sun and the warm wind brings back my past sixteen summers. but now these summers are passing as my brother grows. as i grow. my summers are on pause. - 최근에 반갑게 맞이한 눈 부신 햇빛과 따듯한 바람이 여름을 부른다. 쌀쌀한 새벽에 아빠랑 할머니댁에 안부 전하러 간 날들. 뜨거운 햇빛아래 땀 흘리며 동생과 공차고 놀았던 날들. 엄마랑 떡볶이랑 순대 사가지고 예능 보며 빈둥빈둥 일요일을 보낸 가족과의 시간들. - 여름. 일곱살 때부터 여름은 항상 가족시간이었다. 이제 당당히 사회인이 되어가고 동생은 공부 때문에 더욱 바빠지면서 당분간 나의 여름은 멈추게 되었다.
