@hellokellyland & i did a stop motion gif-making workshop as part of @regentparkfilm’s Home Made Visible series at the Don Mills Public Library ♥️ my favourite part of workshopping is sharing the energy of someone who’s discovering their own creative capacity and becomes excited by it. I often see it in the way they look at their work. That moment of recognition is so beautiful and it gives me so much hope. 🌱
Tried more pattern on slab this season for this set of dessert platters. improving in glaze. still bad at underglaze 😂 guess i know what to work on next.
Launched Vol 7 & Vol 8 this past weekend. lots of feels. had a public cry while thinking about all the ways we do and don’t do enough. how that’s okay. how hope is fraught and powerful exactly because it is defiant and fragile. how this is life and work and community. every launch is possible because of how much the community gives. i’m so grateful. two more looseleafs to go. shall we go boldly into this chapter that is both an end and a beginning?

i decided to create a piece that is reflective on how my brain functions bilingually simultaneously. i sometimes have no idea what language i’m speaking to my bf because i’m going back and forth so much & i only know when i pause myself to recall the words i’ve just spoken. i only started to read korean books and write paragraphs in korean a couple of years ago. i’ve depended on english to express myself until university when i realized korean felt more truthful to me and i felt the need (& interest) to learn more about the language that i’ve never had a chance to properly learn. having immigrated here at age 7, i could only have developed an intimate relationship with korean because my dad continuously sends me long messages & i desire to reply with a comprehensible language; and because i desire to communicate with my brother & understand the latest slangs and ideas. the piece in @projectx40c’s looseleaf staff anthology is special for another reason. the korean text are taken from my phone notes written at various points of my early twenties - an ongoing journey when they started to have expectations for me, when i realized i needed to come to terms, when i began to feel more comfortable with myself. very thankful to be part of this with some of the wonderful people at p40 & looseleaf. this staff anthology is for sale, if you want to grab a copy!

// may was a month of healing. a mental cool down through adventures in otherworldly vast landscapes with polka dots of sheeps and streams of rocks. within all of this, may responded so unexpectedly (in a very good way) to april’s stresses and uncertainties, of my desire for something new, to escape the ceaseless stuffiness. may also let me know how much i need, and thus appreciate, having someone who is patient with my temper and stubbornness to remind me to take deep breaths. - as always, the warm sunshine will pass by fast. the cool breeze will come to welcome a busy theatre season. and then a new year will begin. i’m anticipating with nervousness and excitement, and all the feelings in between. 나의 끊임없는 고집이 이럴 때 빛이 나네...

// lots of spring greens and happy faces from london & oxford (feat. my hot dog socks) - the unexpected sunshine warmth on our first day in london had us lying down on the grass at holland park, jackets off and sunglasses on, forgetting about the places we had planned to go, (and watching obnoxious private school boys trying to impress a girl). that may be my favourite time from this trip.
