Found this whopper of a novel in my library (probably acquired in the old days of sweeping through used book sales and buying whatever i felt like) and been slowly going through it the last week and a bit. Itโ€™s my first foray back into fiction in quite a while, and I find myself trying to unlearn some bad habits of having been an ENG student for so many years. It was a sprawling ride but I like where it took me ๐Ÿ˜Œ Questions that kept resurfacing were, โ€œHow much do we explainโ€ if we project that our audience wonโ€™t understand? Or if we are partially our own diasporic relearning audience as well? How do we make the world with a deft and precise hand when contending with being โ€œmarginโ€ in the landscape of English literature? Do I like such dense and detailed realism?? Do I??? Did I like this because of or in spite of this density? Still figuring that one out. Ah. books, itโ€™s good to be back. A lot more of you next year I hope.
